3-30-12 -- 1999 Blazer / Vortec V6 Maiden Voyage Report...
I have to say that the Maiden Voyage of the 1999 Blazer went really
well..... Engine runs like a swiss time piece so far....
smooth, nice power..... Transmission shifting great! The 4 wheel drive
low, high, and 2 wheel high modes transfer in and out really nice when I
hit the selector buttons.......

Originally I was on the way to the parts store to pick up some front shocks, since
I notice a little shock oil leaking out of the front right, or passenger front side shock....
but I did have to add another item to the list as soon as I got up to about 13mph
after starting the trip...... DOH!... no biggie.... just needed a new front right
wheel bearing.... or I should say, wheel hub.... it was really roaring pretty loud...
$69.00 later, the wheel hub is here, and will probably get installed tomorrow sometime...
I think I'm gonna have one nice plane hauler here yet!
4-01-12
Put the new passenger side wheel hub on, so now I have new front wheel bearings
that I was in need of.......... After the replacement of the wheel hub, I took the truck for
a 15 mile test run................ oh yeah..... smooth, and quiet! Engine is running like a swiss
time piece, and the front of the truck no longer vibrates and isn't making roaring noises
anymore.... Looks like the new 1999 Chevy Blazer 4x4 4door plane hauler is good to go!
Looking forward to lots of flying trips to the field with this new creature.....
Now, with this said..... starts the new chapter of the Blazer project.....don't know if I'll post
pics of the teardown, but the old 1986 2-door blazer is on it's way out....
I'm pulling the power train.... (350 cu. in. V8 engine & 5 speed manual trans.)... and then taking
the rest in for scrap... It sure has been a good vehicle, but with the new 1999 Blazer, this is just the
upgrade that I have been looking for.............
Just hit 203.9 miles with the 1999 Blazer on Monday 4-9-12 Everything is looking great still!!!!!
Wooooooohooooo!!!!!
Wooooooohooooo!!!!!
4-14-12 Hit 333 miles! Still Most Excellent!
4-18-12 -- Just some newer shots of the 1999 Blazer out in the driveway, since putting 300 miles on it....
4-22-12 ==> Getting closer to the first oil change.... 500 mile marker is slowly creeping up.... ;-)
4-29-12 -- Ended up having to get a new differential cover for the rear end.... was leaking pretty bad,
and the old original cover was rotted out... worst one I've seen of this style before.....

4-30-12 --- Finally broke the 400 mile marker..... not too much longer before I see 500 miles....
Then the reese style hitch will be put on, and I'll start pulling my trailers with this vehicle....
Everything looking great yet, so far! Think I'm pretty much in the clear, other than a few minor
bugs, like the differential cover that I had to replace earlier.....

5-06-12==> Took the new-to-me 1999 Blazer out to the flying field with a plane (The Goldberg Extra 330
that I just recently recovered red/yellow.......... very relaxing day, and truck is running great! Just now pushing 460 miles....
I have been noticing that the A/C compressor pulley is starting to get a loud metallic grinding noise..... must be a bad
clutch bearing...... Hmmm.... deciding whether to fix the bearing, or eliminate the A/C all together..... I usually
don't use it, but it does come in handy on those moist-air mornings using the defroster...... we'll see....

-- I'm finally at the 560 mile marker.... yes, the Blazer doesn't get drove
a whole lot..... in fact during normal life, both of our blazers might get 20 miles
a week if we're lucky... lol ...
Anyways.... in the last couple weeks, my air conditioner pump pulley bearing went
out so I picked up one of these, and eliminated the A/C pump all together, especially since
the A/C system had no pressure / coolant in it at all do to a leak in on of the lines.....
Didn't feel like paying for the new A/C Pump and/or pulley & A/C coolant line,
or paying for the shop to recharge the system... ;-)

The Dorman A/C pump eliminator pulley & Bracket works great!
Had to finaggle the bolts that I had to make it work, because the bolts that
came with it were not the right ones....

I also had to pick up the tensioner pulley for the slack arm that tightens the belt...
Old one was squealing like a pig, and wobbly..... guess that's pretty much normal
when you get up to 194,000 miles, eh? However, we are back on track again....

Next page, the Blazer gets a trailer hitch! Gonna start putting this vehicle to use real soon......
